Three widget surfaces
Lock screen circular — the smallest, fastest access. Tap it, the mic opens immediately, you speak, the answer shows on the lock screen briefly and stores in your paper tape. Best for the most-frequent quick questions.
Lock screen rectangular — same speed, more space. Shows your last answer or a quick-action label. Useful when you want to glance at your previous calculation without unlocking.
Home screen widgets— small and medium sizes. Live on your phone's home screen as a permanent shortcut. Tap-to-speak from any home screen page.
Why widgets specifically
Unlocking a phone with gloves on takes time. Wiping your hands, unlocking, finding the app, opening it — that's thirty seconds you don't have when one hand is on the saw and the other is on the cut. The lock-screen widget collapses that whole sequence into a single tap.
For the iOS-savvy: widgets are built with WidgetKit and use AppIntents for the tap-to-record flow. Pro/free gating for premium widget features uses an app group keyed to your purchase receipt — your tier follows you across all surfaces without a round trip to a server.
Setting them up
Long-press your lock screen, tap Customize, add the Journeyman widget. Same drill on the home screen. Once placed, you can configure which trade-specific widget surface shows by default (rafter calc, conversion, fraction round-up, or generic voice-in).
